根据《Variety》报导指出，詹姆斯迈克尔泰勒在 2018 年秋季时诊断出罹患侵犯型摄护腺癌，今年中他揭开病情时已到了第四期，即末期。
对于他的离世，《老友记》官方推特也发文哀悼他们失去了一位成员，并用爱心与咖啡的符号表达对他去世的想念之情。
